What is Sleep Apnea?
Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the most common form of sleep apnea.
It occurs when the two Jews in the throat collapse block the flow of an out of the longs during sleep. There is no airflow despite efforts to brief. People with OS a struggle to breathe again and again making restful sleep impossible.
This airway collapse can be caused by: extra tissue in the back of the airway such as enlarged tonsils, decrease in the tone of the muscles holding the airway open, or the tongue falling back and closing off the airway.
Central Sleep Apnea results from brain not signaling the body to breathe. There is no airflow because there is no effort to breathe.
Sleep may also be disrupted by central sleep apnea.
Mixed Sleep Apnea is a combination of central apnea and obstructive.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea as a serious, potentially life altering and life threatening condition that is:
- Easily identified
- Effectively treated
